There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features many luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
